DoC software enables you to print from any application with copies, overlays and logos. You can print single or two-sided, with or without toner saving. You can print from any combination of input trays to different output bins. You can print documents to your local printer and copies to other printers - all automatically.
I received error messages about stopping and starting the spooler during installation
Contact your system administrator and make sure that you have sufficient access rights to install programs, stop and start services and add a local printer
The spooler appeared to stop OK but I got an error "Unable to Start Spooler" and/or "Add Monitor Failed"
The spooler service didn't restart in the time expected. Try running the install program again
The install appeared to complete but I don't have a DoCport in the list of available ports.
Restart Windows or your computer and check again. If DoCport is still not visible check with your system administrator that Local Ports have not been disabled on your computer
I can't add a new local printer on DoCport.
Check with your system administrator that you have sufficient access rights to add a local printer
DoC appeared to install but I don't have the DoC icon displayed in the system tray.
If you opted not to run DoC as a service during installation, you will need to start DoC from Start -> Programs -> AptDoC (once only).
When I run the demonstration examples some or all overlays do not print correctly.
The demonstration overlays are PCL5e overlays, check that you are using a PCL5e driver. Try re-creating the overlays using the correct driver for the printer you are using. The source files for the demonstration overlays can be found in C:/DoCprint/DemoDocs. Follow the instructions for creating an overlay in DoC Commander - Overlays in this manual.
The following answers assume that you have checked to make sure you are printing to the correct DoCprinter on DoCport# and that you have the correct destination printer assigned to DoC.
I have a black line printing at the top of my documents
Check that your registration is valid and that you have not exceeded the 30 day trial period. Select registration on the Printer Tab of DoCCommander to see your current status. If your trial period has expired you must contact your supplier for a Product Registration Key Code and Serial Number to register DoC.
I have only one DoCport shown in my list of Printer Ports and I want to use more than one DoCPrinter.
Select Registration from the Printer Tab in DoC Commander. If you have an unregistered copy of DoC then only one DoCport is available. If you have a registered copy, the features that have been enabled in your version will be displayed. To add more ports or features contact your supplier.
I want to use distributed printing and I have 4 or 8 DoCports available but my printing all appears on the default DoCPrinter.
Select Registration from the Printer Tab in DoC Commander and check that Distributed Printing is enabled. If it is disabled please contact your supplier for an upgrade. If it is enabled check that you are editing the command correctly, see "Distributed Printing" in the Technical Reference Manual.
The embedded commands in my documents are printing on the page
Check that the command is correct and that you don't have any invalid characters in
the command and that the command name doesn't contain any spaces. Try using a different font for
the command - Times New Roman or Arial are usually good choices, as is Courier (but not Courier New).
If you still have a problem, check the settings in your printer driver for the printer on DoCport.
The actual settings vary from driver to driver but look for settings like "Send True Type as Bitmap"
or "Send Page as Raster" and ensure that these and similar settings are NOT enabled.
If you are printing from MS Word, or any application that allows you to insert "print fields"
put the command in a "print field".
If you still have a problem, remove the command from your document. Enable PopUp Menu for
the printer you are using. Reprint the document selecting the command from the PopUp Dialog box.
If this prints correctly your document is probably being printed as a graphic. Test the command
on a simple document in WordPad or NotePad. If this is correct then something in the document is
causing the whole document to print as a graphic. If using Popup Menu solved the problem, you may
consider switching to this method for all your selections. If you need to use embedded commands please
contact your supplier or email for support.
If using "Popup Menu" did not solve the problem it is likely that there is an error in the command.
If you can't see it please contact your supplier or email for support.
My documents are printing on the wrong paper
Using "Select By Paper Type" (DoCCommander - Options Tab), check that the settings in
the "Paper Handling Menu" on your printer match the names set in "Paper Type" in DoC Commander.
Also make sure that you have not duplicated a paper type in either menu.
Using "Select By Tray Number" (DoC Commander - Options Tab) make sure you have assigned a different
paper type to each paper tray in your printer - This is in the "Paper Handling Menu" on the printer
control panel. Also check that the command sequence is correct in DoCCommander Options Tab.
My overlays are not printing correctly.
If your overlays were not created with the printer driver you are using or were created for a different printer, recreate the overlays for your current printer. Be careful particularly with overlays on colour printers. It is advisable to use separate overlays for colour and monochrome printers.
I am sending documents to print, but nothing is being printed.
Check that DoC is running and that you have not left DoC Commander open. The DoC icon
should be visible in the system tray in the bottom right corner of your screen. If it is not visible:
Windows 2000 / NT4.0 / XP Check in Control Panel - Services or Control Panel - Administrative
Tools - Services that DoCPrint service is running. If it is not running start it. It should be
configured to run automatically.
Windows 95/98
Go to Start-Programs-AptDoc and run DoCPrint. Still not printing? - Look in C:\DoCPrint\prns\DoCport#
for *.prn files (Any .prn files here will be printed when you get DoC started!) If there are no files
here check that you printing to the correct DoCport#. Check in DoC Commander - Printers Tab that
you have correctly assigned a printer to DoC.
