DoC software enables you to print from any application with copies, overlays and logos. You can print single or two-sided, with or without toner saving. You can print from any combination of input trays to different output bins. You can print documents to your local printer and copies to other printers - all automatically.
Once DoC has been installed and configured, you are ready to start creating profiles to define your print jobs. (See Installing DoC for the use of the Printer, Options and Advanced tabs).
This allows you to create and manage overlays.
To generate an overlay, you produce a document with the overlay data, forms, graphics etc. in any suitable application like MS Word or Excel.
When you are happy with the printed output, print the document to ‘file’. Most applications
have a ‘Print to File’ checkbox if you print from the ‘File’ - ‘Print’
menu. If you do not have this option, you will need to map a printer to a ‘File’ port.
When prompted for a file name, enter an appropriate path and name for the file e.g.
c:\DoCPrint\PrnFiles\draftcopy.prn. When you have saved your ‘draftcopy.prn’ file, click
the ‘Create’ button.
Browse for your input ‘draftcopy.prn’ file and enter a description. DoC will assign an ID
number to the overlay and save it in the c:\DoCPprint\overlays folder.
When you create your overlays, remember that an overlay created using a PCL5 printer driver will not
print with a PCL6 printer driver and vice versa. If you are creating overlays for both PCL5 and PCL6
drivers, you can assign the same ID number for the same overlay for each driver. It is advisable to
add PCL5 or 6 to the name of the overlays.
Test the overlay you have created by highlighting it, ticking the ‘print samples’
check box then clicking on ‘Upload’.
If you haven’t selected any permanent printer storage, this will print a sample of the overlay.
Once you have created your overlays, you set where and how they print within your document in the
Command Generator tab - Overlays buttons.
The Command Generator allows you to create and name DoC profiles which determine how your
document will print.
Use the Command Generator to select which paper tray your first page, other pages and copies are
to come from by selecting each one from the drop down menu.
Select the output bins in the same way.
The DoC profile above shows an invoice printed on paper from tray 2 with overlays for company logo,
address and "Invoice" on the front; terms and conditions on the reverse,
other pages on continuation paper from tray 3, and two office copies on coloured paper from tray 4
with a copy overlay, printed duplex
using economode thus saving paper and toner.
Click new to create a new profile, copy to make another
similar profile and to edit an existing profile, select from the drop-down list and make the
required changes.
To select which overlays you wish to use on the first page, other pages and copies, click the "Overlays" button in the relevent section of the dialog box. For the original first page, the logo-address overlay and "Invoice" are Type 1 overlays and will print on the front of the page. The third logo is for Terms to be printed on the back of the first page and a Type 7 overlay will duplex this on the reverse of the paper. See overlay type definitions
Other pages have the logo and "Invoice" overlays printed on the front of the paper.
Select which overlays you require for the copies
Click the finishing button to select duplex, economode, stapling and distributed printing for original and copies.
To activate the profile, you can set DoC to display a dialog box (Popup menu) when you send the document
to print. You then select the named profile from a drop-down list.
Alternatively, the command can be embedded in a document template so each time you print that type of
document, it will select that profile automatically.
For MS Word documents, Auto Print Technology can supply printing templates to your specification.
If the PopUp menu option has been selected during installation, when you print your document, the PopUp Menu appears and you can choose how your document will print. You may choose which version of the menu appears by clicking the "Less" or "More" button.

Print before data |
||
| Type-1 |

|
| Type-2 |
Side 2 before data Print on second side before data. Only when printing duplex. Your overlays print on the reverse side of the paper and not on the front. For example, print a form on the reverse of a page and the data in your document would fill in the fields. |
|
| Type-3 |

|
Printing duplex on pre-printed paper.Printing duplex on pre-printed paper.Selecting an overlay from Type 7 to Type 10 forces the printer to print duplex. Due to the way printers handle two sided printing, it is necessary to select the correct overlay type. If you want to put an overlay, for example terms & conditions, on the back of your letterhead or other pre-printed stationery, choose one of the following. You may need to test with different overlay types to get the correct result. |
||
| Type-7 |
Duplex on reverse Print overlay on back of paper. |
|
| Type-8 |
Duplex on reverse (LEF)* Print overlay on back of the paper and data onto the front. Use with pre-printed paper for printers feeding *"Long Edge First". |
|
| Type-9 |
Duplex on reverse* (SEF) Print on back of paper, but rotates printing by 180°. Use with pre-printed paper for printers printing*"Short Edge First". |
|
| Type-10 |
